It's almost that time of year again, spring. Just like how spring cleaning is done on one's house, room or garage, it also needs to be done on the body. Summer is around the corner, and temperatures will rise, requiring the body to use up more energy. However, being in good shape can avoid being out of breath or exhausted in the hot summer heat. Spring is the perfect time to regain physical fitness since it's neither too hot nor cold, just perfect. Not only is physical health important, but mental vitality is just as important. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to improve both physical and mental health.
Aerobic exercises are basically any activity that works out the body at a low intensity for a long period of time. Aerobic exercises include activities such as walking, mowing the grass, light swimming, hiking or basically any activity that is done for a long period of time but doesn't take much energy or intensity. This form of exercise improves cardiovascular health, muscle endurance and endurance in general. Keep in mind that aerobic exercise will give one longer endurance but only at a low intensity level. Needless to say, it's still a great type of exercise that is very healthy and beneficial.
Anaerobic exercises are essentially the opposite of aerobic exercises, being high intensity for a short period of time. This includes activities such as running, sprinting, jump rope, bench press, push ups, squats and the like. Anaerobic exercises increase muscle mass, strength and speed. This form of exercise helps the body be able to produce a lot of power in a short period of time. However, this type of exercise doesn't offer long endurance like aerobic exercises do. Still though, they are very healthy for the body and beneficial for the person.
In general, not either one is better. This is because each one offers different benefits that fit different people's needs. For instance, anaerobic exercises would be best for a football player since he/she needs to produce a lot of energy in a short period of time. On the other hand, aerobic exercises would best suit a hiker that hikes 20 plus miles on all types of terrain, steep or flat. What best suits one person depends on their goals and needs.
There are many ways to improve mental health. Truthfully, one of the best ways to improve mental health is meditation. Meditation may sound hard to do, but it's really not. It's simply done by closing the eyes and focusing on the black void while deep breathing. That's another thing very beneficial for mental health, deep breathing. Deep breathing will cause the brain to release less stress hormones, which will then in turn reduce stress. Both meditation and deep breathing are two very powerful tools to a healthier, stress free and happy mind. By improving both mental and physical health, a person will be able to fully enjoy their summer.
