Fitness may be considered as one of society's greatest challenges, especially for those individuals who get the news that they have an ailment which could be improved through healthier living. The fact of the matter is that many people choose to go with the flow when the solution to several health problems could be right under their very noses. There is something to be said for the Amish community and as strange as their behavioral patterns, they could be the answer to any problems. It is true that this community may choose to distance themselves from many of the technological advantages of today, but maybe they are on to something.
Okay, so a life without television, computers and smart phones may seem impossible for most people to comprehend, but what if those things were never invented? The Amish community has determined that they are quite capable of surviving on other important things than technology and for anyone paying attention, this decision seems to be translating to longer healthier lifestyles. It has been suggested by certain reports that the Amish community is not being subjected to the same level of allergic reactions among themselves as the rest of the people of this world.
It is not necessary to be a dietician to realize that certain foods are not as good for the human body as others, that fact can easily be related to the milk that is being consumed. Parents in the Amish community believe that raw milk is better for their children, and this decision seems to be part of the explanation for lower risk of having to deal with allergens. There is a reason why the advertisement suggests that milk does a body good, but maybe raw milk will be better for the human body; it seems to have positive reactions among the horse and buggy population.
The general population has major concerns about washing their hands and ensuring that foods are handled according to a specific set of guidelines, but are they right? Part of the problem with being too focused on cleanliness is that the human body is protected from disease and the ability to shield themselves from an onslaught of future diseases. While nobody is suggesting that society should throw caution to the wind when it comes to maintaining some level of cleanliness, being overly protective of some exposure to germs may not be such a good idea for the immune system.
A drive through the Amish countryside will expose the traveler to acres of land being used for growing food for the people who call this place their home. There is nothing long term about the produce being supplied to the community and for anyone expecting them to use a can opener, they would be in for a surprise. Food is grown and used fresh and without preservatives, which is probably why the risks of cancer and other forms of cardiac ailments are less likely.
Packaged food is unnecessary, in fact, everything consumed in this area is grown by the people living there. If any fat is consumed it is the good kind and considering the fact that they spend a lot of time in the fields, their metabolism quickly burns it off. There is no corporate ladder or road rage stress to deal with which is why heart problems are almost unheard of among the rank and file. Maybe the rest of the world needs to follow the Amish example.
